Xingyi San Shou Pao (Form and Will Boxing, Peaceful Fighting Canon)

Paperback in Plastic & Vinyl Binder, with nearly 80 original line drawings featuring Sha Guozhen in action with another practitioner; 122 pp. 8 1/2" x 11" and has a spiral binder and plenty of margin space for taking notes and ease of use during practice.

In this rare book, the late Sha Guozhen, famed student of Jiang Rong Qiao, presents his own Xingyi two person fighting form, that draws on his lifelong experience in the art. This is the longest, certainly most involved, two person Xingyi set we've seen to date. The text breaks down in detail how to apply the Five Fists, Animals, and linking concepts of this dynamic internal martial art. Over fifty attacks and counters from the stand up position are demonstrated and discussed.

Covered are grabs, tie-ups, locks, low kicks, sweeps, rooting, neutralizing and reversing using both lightness and explosive force. Also covered are specifics on hands (various fists and shapes for striking, grabs, and deflections), body dynamics (hip folding and tailbone suspension), and footwork (stepping, rooting, useful low kicks, stomps, and sweeps).

For Nei Jia Kung Fu practitioners this is a living document from a recognizable Nei Jia Kung Fu icon who lived the art, and was noted for his application and two person skill. This work presents both fresh ideas, and astute reminders of how to apply internal martial arts principles in conflict. Having held up over time, the line drawings provide a vivid picture of dynamics and movement. In addition to movement arrows to indicate hand direction and movement, specific arrows are also used to show primary and secondary movements with the feet.

Practitioners of any martial art will find that this is a book they can refer to for ideas in the stand up phase that, like the book itself, will be useful both now and in the years to come.
