A COMPREHENSIVE SERIES OF AUTHENTIC YI QUAN PRACTICE

In Two Volumes, this series presents more than 30 Standing, Seated, Reclining, and Walking Meditation Methods. While Yi Quan has grown in notoriety in recent years since it was popularized by Wang Xiang Zhai, a student of Xingyi Teacher, Guo Yun Shen, Xingyi's connection, in some cases, has all but almost been completely left out of the equation.

NOTE: This rare and unique video series is combined with the classic Yi Quan book, DaCheng Kung Fu at a savings. Check out our Specials page for more information on this pure Yi Quan, Xingyi combination.

In this very comprehensive series, the meditative aspects of Yi Quan as well as the emission of explosive power (where applicable), and more importantly, how to apply Yi Quan in Push Hands (forms and freestyle) and in Grappling and Fighting are presented with specifics.

Unique to this series is a detailed explanation of a rare Xingyi Yi Quan form known as, "Mutual Creation of the Five Tones," in which each of the Five Touches (finger pressure), Five Shapes (Healing Palms), Five Vibrations (circulation of energy), as well as Healing Sounds, are explained separately, in detail and in accordance with the Five Elements; and, at last brought together to present a simplistic, yet profound, and meditative form.

Each Volume is highlighted by the following contents:

    VOLUME ONE (Mastering the Stillpoint):

Emphasizes step-by-step instruction for more than 30 standing, seated, reclining, and walking meditation practices that emphasize the power of relaxation, mental awareness, and power emission as taught by Instructor Gerald A. Sharp who exposes a comprehensive, legitimate perspective of Yi Quan practice as a core practice of Xingyiquan. Eight chapters are organized as follows:

INTRODUCTION: Sharp's Xingyi and Yi Quan Teachers including: Zou Shuxian, Huan Da Hai, and Cheng Jie Feng are profiled. Also a brief overview of Yi Quan's history is provided.

STANDING POSTURES 1-10: Broken down and fully explained is how the classical Yi Quan postures were based primarily on the San Cai (San Ti) posture. Correct alignment, breathing, circulating energy, as well as power emission are demonstrated and explained.

STANDING POSTURES 11-18: These postures emphasize balance and develop internal strength. Correct alignment and internal alchemy are explained.

STANDING POSTURES 19-24: These postures encourage further strengthening of the alignment as well as develop internal energy and power.

SITTING MEDITATION 25-29: Performed sitting on the edge of a chair, these meditation exercises are useful for encouraging health and relieving stress, and are easy to apply during a break time at work or while on a plane or similar mass transit during travel.

RECLINING MEDITATION 30-33: The postures in this chapter emphasize reclining and help to encourage meditation, rest, or sleep.

WALKING MEDITATION 34-35: Two meditative walking methods are taught in detail: "Take Steps with Concealed Hands" and "Turning Palms." Both encourage the development of correct alignment, energy enhancement, and movement alternated with stillness. Great for developing the central equilibrium as well as internal strength.

END CREDITS: Aside from giving credit to the people who helped make this video possible, five-year old Master Jeremy Yun Sharp demonstrates the power of his "chi" and empty force techniques on his number one student, Gerald A. Sharp. With stellar special effects, it's sure to entertain even the most serious and uptight of all practitioners looking for the most "correct" practice and application of Yi Quan.

VOLUME TWO (Applications & Sounds of Stillness):

    INTRODUCTION: Same as Volume One.

YI QUAN IN PUSH HANDS: Explained is how to incorporate the simple standing postures of Yi Quan into Push Hands. Covered is how to connect the simple hand postures to opponent's joints as well power emission. Also of interest is how the power of softness and relaxation is specifically used in overcoming force.

YI QUAN IN GRAPPLING: Basically covers how to use standing postures in Yi Quan in the stand up phase, takedowns, and reversals as well as techniques that can be applied on the ground with little force both from the bottom and top positions.

THE FIVE TOUCHES: Teaches self finger acupressure based on the Five Elements (or, Phases: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, & Earth) that can be applied in standing practice to deliberately effect the positive flow of energy.

THE FIVE TONES: Actually presents six sounds, a clearing sound and five tones based on the Five Elements that can subtly encourage a dynamic flow of energy to enrich the experience of meditation.

THE FIVE VIBRATIONS: Teaches how to flow the energy, combining both the touches and the tones, based on physical characteristics associated with the Five Elements.

THE FIVE SHAPES: Instruction covers the hand shapes associated with the Five Elements. These shapes are combined in the next chapter with the touches, tones, and vibrations to present a simple, yet profound meditative form for developing internal power with sound, specific pressure, vibration, shape, and movement (that is specific yet incidental and simple). These shapes, although not demonstrated here, have been used in hands-on healing.

MUTUAL CREATION OF THE FIVE TONES: Brings together the touches, the sounds, the vibrations, and the shapes into a simplistic form that is similar to the Mutual Creation of the Five Fists Linking form of the Hebei School of Xingyiquan.

    END CREDITS: See Volume One.
